Softball Recap: Glendale Nitros vs. Burbank Bulldogs
Glendale had lost eight straight on the road, but on Monday they dropped their record down to 10-13-1 to make it nine. They lost 13-1 to the Burbank Bulldogs. The result was an unpleasant reminder to the Nitros of the 16-5 loss they experienced in the pair's previous head-to-head fixture back in April of 2024.
Glendale saw three different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Jade Marquez, who went 1-for-3 with one triple and one RBI.
As for Burbank, the win was the third in a row for them, bringing their record up to 8-11-1. They might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won six games by six runs or more this season.
On Burbank's side, Kayla Orozco was a major factor no matter where she played. She tossed two innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. Orozco has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't given up a single walk in four consecutive appearances. She was also stellar in the batter's box, getting on base in three of her four plate appearances with two runs, one stolen base, and two RBI. That's the most runs she has posted since back in April of 2024.
In other batting news, Samantha Cafferty was a standout: she got on base in all four of her plate appearances with three stolen bases, three runs, and one RBI. Those three stolen bases gave her a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Chloe Updike, who went 2-for-3 with one home run, two runs, and one stolen base.
