Basketball Recap: Weld Central Rebels vs. Elizabeth Cardinals
Weld Central was not able to break out of their rough patch on Friday as the team picked up their tenth straight defeat. They came up short against the Elizabeth Cardinals, falling 63-38. The Rebels were given a dose of their own medicine in this game as the Cardinals apparently hadn't forgotten their loss the last time these teams played back in February of 2016.
Weld Central's defeat came despite a true team effort with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Westin Barrows, who posted three points and five boards. Another player making a difference was Ross Phelps, who put up five points.
Elizabeth found their leader in sophomore Cohen Steinke, who went 11 of 19 en route to 25 points in addition to eight assists and seven rebounds. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Steinke has scored all season. Zephaniah Silvas was another key player, putting up six points and five boards.
Weld Central's loss dropped their record down to 1-15. As for Elizabeth, the win (which was their third in a row) raised their record to 7-10.
Weld Central didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next game, a 66-57 victory against Northridge on the 10th. As for Elizabeth, they also wasted no time getting back out on the court and have already played their next contest, a 76-41 defeat against Falcon on the 11th.
