Basketball Recap: Hidalgo Early College Comes Up Short

After flying high against Donna on Thursday, Hidalgo Early College came back down to earth. The Pirates fell just short of the Economedes Jaguars by a score of 36-34 on Thursday.

Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Economedes to victory, but perhaps none more so than Caleb Mejia, who went 6-for-15 en route to 16 points in addition to seven rebounds and three steals. Aniel Solis was another key player, putting up six points along with 11 boards and three blocks.

Hidalgo Early College's defeat dropped their record down to 7-5. As for Economedes, the victory was the fourth in a row for them, bringing their record up to 7-5.

Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Hidalgo Early College and Vanguard Academy Beethoven will face off at 10:30 a.m. on Friday without much rest, having both just played. As for Economedes, they will be playing at home against Donna at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday.
