Softball Recap: Marathon Triumphs

While Marathon's win against Edgar wasn't quite the blowout it was the last time the pair played, they still came out on top. The Red Raiders won by a run and slipped past the Wildcats 6-5. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest victory the Red Raiders have posted since April 20th.

Allison Podjaski spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered only one earned (and four unearned) runs on five hits and racked up 13 Ks. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in ten consecutive appearances.

On the hitting side, Mylee Haehlke was excellent, going 1-for-3 with one home run. The team also got some help courtesy of Danica Staus, who went 1-for-3 with two RBI and one double.

The win made it two in a row for Marathon and bumps their season record up to 17-4. Those victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered a grand total of 6 runs in those games. As for Edgar, they are on a four-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 8-10.

Looking ahead, Marathon will venture away from home to face off against Pacelli at 4:30 p.m. on Friday. The two teams have allowed few runs on average (the Red Raiders 3.7, the Cardinals 4) so any runs scored will be well earned. As for Edgar, they will be playing at home against Phillips at 4:45 p.m. on Friday.
