Softball Recap: Kodiak Comes Up Short

Kodiak had lost three straight on the road, but on Saturday they dropped down to 6-6 to make it four. They came up short against the Soldotna Stars, falling 14-6. Give some credit to the fans of both teams: the last three times they've met, the home team has come away the winner.

As for Soldotna, the win (which was their 12th in a row) raised their record to 14-2. The result was nothing new for the Stars, who have now won 13 contests by six runs or more so far this season.

For Soldotna's part, Katie Debardelaben was a major factor no matter where she played. She looked comfortable on the mound, striking out six batters over five innings while giving up just one earned (and four unearned) runs off four hits. Debardelaben has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in six consecutive appearances. She was also solid in the batter's box, getting on base in three of her four plate appearances with two runs, one stolen base, and one RBI.

In other batting news, Cierra Stuyvesant was incredible, going a perfect 2-for-2 with three runs, one triple, and one double. Those three runs gave her a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Rebekah Pieh, who went 2-for-4 with two runs, two RBI, and one double.

Coincidentally, Kodiak and Soldotna will both be playing Homer the next time they take the field. The Stars will host the Mariners at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday, while the Bears will host them on Friday.
