Basketball Recap: Litchfield Comes Up Short

Litchfield lost against Father McGivney Catholic back in January of 2024 and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Tuesday. The contest between the Litchfield Purple Panthers and the Father McGivney Catholic Griffins didn't end well, with the Litchfield Purple Panthers falling 43-26. While losing is never fun, the Purple Panthers can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Illinois basketball rankings (they are ranked 477th, while the Griffins are ranked 237th).

Izzie Venarsky went supernova for Father McGivney Catholic, dropping a double-double on 18 points and 11 rebounds. Those 18 points gave Venarsky a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Alexa Jones, who posted six points in addition to five boards and five steals.

Litchfield has traveled a rocky road recently having lost seven of their last nine matchups, which put a noticeable dent in their 6-14 record this season. As for Father McGivney Catholic, the win made it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 13-8.

Litchfield has already played their next game (against East Alton-Wood River), but no score has been uploaded at the time of writing. Father McGivney Catholic has also has no score uploaded for their next contest, this one against Gibault Catholic.
