Softball Recap: Shelbyville Comes Up Short

Shelbyville extended their losing streak to three on Friday, dropping them down to 10-13. They took a 6-1 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Mt. Vernon Marauders. That's two games in a row now that the Golden Bears have lost by exactly five runs.

Shelbyville saw two different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Hailey Maulden, who went 1-for-3 with one run and one double.

As for Mt. Vernon, they now have a winning record of 10-9. The win made it back-to-back victories for they.

On Mt. Vernon's side, Amelia Anderson made a big impact while hitting and pitching. She didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only two hits while striking out seven over seven innings pitched. Anderson was also solid in the batter's box, going 3-for-4 with two doubles and one RBI. That's the most hits she has posted since back in April.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Ashlyn Laffey, who went a perfect 3-for-3 with two runs and one triple. That's the most runs she has posted since back in April. Norah Pierce was another key player, going 2-for-3 with two RBI, one run, and one double.

Coming up, Shelbyville will face off against Charlestown at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday. As for Mt. Vernon, they will square off against Anderson at 5:30 p.m. on Monday.
