Baseball Game Preview: Akron Tigers vs. Newfane Panthers

For the second straight game, Akron will face off against Newfane. The Tigers are taking a road trip to square off against the Panthers at 4:45 p.m. on Wednesday. Akron is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 7.2 runs per game this season.

Akron barely beat Newfane the last time the pair played, but that sure wasn't the case this time around. The Tigers blew past the Panthers 20-4 on Monday. For those keeping track at home, that's the biggest win the Tigers have posted against the Panthers since June 15, 2021.

Ryan Owen made a splash while hitting and pitching. He pitched four innings while giving up three earned (and one unearned) runs off five hits. He has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in four consecutive appearances. He was also solid in the batter's box, going a perfect 3-for-3 with one run and one RBI. Those three hits gave him a new career-high.

In other batting news, Akron got a massive performance out of Conlan Luck, who went a perfect 3-for-3 with two stolen bases, five RBI, and two runs. That's the most runs Luck has posted since back in April. Collin Miller was another key player, getting on base in all four of his plate appearances with three runs, three RBI, and one triple.

Akron always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .649. That's the best OBP they've posted all season.

Akron has been performing well recently as they've won three of their last four contests. That's provided a massive bump to their 7-6 record this season. Those victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 9.8 runs over those games. As for Newfane, they are on a five-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 2-9.
