Baseball Game Preview: Alameda Hornets vs. Piedmont Highlanders

For the second straight game, Alameda will face off against Piedmont. The Hornets will head out on the road to square off against the Highlanders at 4:00 p.m. on Friday.

Piedmont hit Alameda with a four-run seventh inning on Wednesday, which goes a long way in explaining the final result. The Hornets fell 5-1 to the Highlanders. The Hornets have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.

For Piedmont's part, they got a great performance from William Ferreira as he pitched 6.1 innings while giving up just one earned run off four hits. Ferreira has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't given up more than one earned run in six consecutive appearances.

On the hitting side, Markos Lagios was excellent, getting on base in three of his four plate appearances with one run and one double. Mike Martin also deserves some recognition as he snagged his first stolen base of the season.

Piedmont has been performing well recently as they've won four of their last five matchups. That's provided a nice bump to their 11-4 record this season. Those wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.8 runs on average over those games. As for Alameda, their loss dropped their record down to 8-8.
