Winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Pearl City). Their pitchers stepped up to hand the Waipahu Marauders a 14-0 shutout on Wednesday. The Chargers haven't had any issues with the Marauders recently, as the game was their fifth consecutive win against them.

Pono Kala looked comfortable as he didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only one hit over four innings pitched. He also tossed no earned runs, which is notable because Pearl City is 2-1 when he allows at most one earned run, but 2-3-2 otherwise.

On the hitting side, Logan Honma was a standout: he scored two runs and stole two bases while going 1-for-2. Pearl City is 3-1 when Honma posts two or more runs, but 1-3-2 otherwise. Another player making a difference was Noah Bernal, who went 1-for-3 with three RBI, one triple, and one run.

Pearl City always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .633. That's the best OBP they've posted all season.

The victory got Pearl City back to even at 4-4-2. As for Waipahu, their defeat was their sixth straight on the road dating back to last season, which dropped their record down to 1-5.

Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Pearl City will challenge 'Aiea at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday. 'Aiea has struggled to contain batters this season (they've allowed 6.67 runs per game on average), something Pearl City will no doubt try to take advantage of. As for Waipahu, they will take on Campbell at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday. Waipahu is facing Campbell at the right time seeing as Campbell is stuck on a three-game losing streak.
