Basketball Recap: Hinkley Drops Highest Score of Season Against Montbello

Hinkley was not able to break out of their rough patch on Monday as the team picked up their 15th straight defeat dating back to last season. The matchup between them and the Montbello Warriors didn't end well, with the Hinkley Thunder falling 70-54. One positive for the Thunder, at least, is that this was the most points they've scored all season.

Loss or not, Hinkley got some senior leadership from Malachi Holden and Marques Yarbough. Holden went 6 of 13 on his way to 14 points and five boards, while Yarbough went 6 for 10 en route to 13 points. Sebatian Torres was another key player, putting up 11 points.

Even though they lost, Hinkley was working as a unit and finished the game with 11 assists. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Montbello only posted four assists.

Montbello's win was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Kian Martin, who went 5 for 7 en route to 21 points. The dominant performance gave Martin a new career-high in points. The team also got some help courtesy of Jeveon West, who dropped a double-double on 13 points and 13 rebounds.

Hinkley's defeat dropped their record down to 0-12. As for Montbello, their victory ended a five-game drought on the road and puts them at 2-14.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Hinkley has already played their next contest (against Regis Groff), but no score has been uploaded at the time of writing. Montbello is taking a road trip to challenge Thomas Jefferson at 7:00 p.m. on Friday.
