Baseball Recap: Western Boone Puts Losing Streak Behind Them

While Western Boone's win against Fountain Central wasn't quite the blowout it was the last time the pair played, they still came out on top. The Stars skirted past the Mustangs 7-5. With that victory, the Stars brought their scoring average up to 6.1 runs per game.

Beau Sawyer made a splash no matter where he played. He looked comfortable on the mound, not allowing a single earned run and allowing only two hits while striking out seven over 4.1 innings pitched. He also tossed a walk, which is notable because Western Boone is 3-1 when he allows at most one walk, but 1-4 otherwise. Sawyer was also big at the plate, going 2-for-3 with one stolen base and one RBI.

Sawyer wasn't the only one making solid contact as three players wound up with at least one hit. One of them was Easton Nance, who went 1-for-3 with one stolen base and one run. That stolen base was Nance's first of the season. Luke Shirley was another, earning two runs and two stolen bases.

Western Boone moved to 4-5 with that win, which also ended their four-game losing streak. As for Fountain Central, they dropped their record down to 1-7 with the defeat, which was their eighth straight on the road dating back to last season.

Coming up, Western Boone will venture away from home to square off against Lebanon at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. As for Fountain Central, they will challenge Seeger at 5:00 p.m. on Tuesday. The Patriots have struggled to contain batters this season (they've allowed 6.57 runs per game on average), something the Mustangs will no doubt try to take advantage of.
