Softball Game Preview: Trimble Tomcats vs. Belpre Golden Eagles

Trimble is 2-8 against Belpre since March of 2016 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Thursday. The Tomcats will venture away from home to challenge the Golden Eagles at 5:00 p.m.

Trimble is leaving town to face Belpre after disappointing their home crowd in their season opener. The Tomcats lost 13-5 to Southern on Tuesday.

B Burdette was cooking despite her team's loss, scoring a run and stealing a base while going 2-for-3. Alyvia Portier was another key player, going 1-for-4 with two RBI and one double.

Meanwhile, after only two runs in their last contest, Belpre made sure to put some runs up on the board against Federal Hocking on Monday. The Golden Eagles put the hurt on the Lancers with a sharp 15-3 win. The Golden Eagles not only won on Monday, but they posted their biggest win since April 9, 2024.

Cali Meredith and Makayla Carmichael made a splash no matter where they played. Throwing, Meredith pitched two innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. Meanwhile, Carmichael struck out seven batters over 2.2 innings while giving up no earned runs or hits (and not a single walk). She has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't tossed less than six strikeouts any time she's pitched this season. At the plate, Meredith scored a run and stole a base while going 1-for-3, while Carmichael scored three runs and stole a base while going 3-for-3.

In other batting news, Rylee Wolfe and Addy Stewart did most of the damage at the plate: Wolfe scored two runs and stole two bases while going 3-for-4, while Stewart went 2-for-4 with three RBI, two runs, and one triple. The team also got some help courtesy of Lucy Ruble, who scored two runs and stole a base while getting on base in three of her four plate appearances.

Trimble skirted past Belpre 1-0 when the teams last played back in April of 2024. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Tomcats since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
