The Sun Valley Spartans will head out on the road to challenge the Marvin Ridge Mavericks at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Sun Valley is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 7.1 runs per game this season.

For whatever reason, it's the away team that's had the advantage when Sun Valley and Weddington meet (two straight games heading into this one) and that held true again on Friday. The Spartans took an 8-4 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Warriors.

Brian Devereaux was cooking despite his team's loss, getting on base in two of his four plate appearances with one stolen base and two RBI. That stolen base was his first of the season.

Meanwhile, Marvin Ridge faced Providence in a battle between two of the state's top teams on Thursday. The Mavericks walked away with an 8-4 victory over the Panthers.

Sun Valley has been struggling recently as they've lost three of their last four matchups. That's put a noticeable dent in their 9-6 record this season. As for Marvin Ridge, their win ended a three-game drought at home and bumped them up to 10-5.

Sun Valley beat Marvin Ridge 9-4 when the teams last played back in April of 2024. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Spartans since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
