Basketball Recap: Althoff Catholic's Win on Wednesday Extends Winning Streak to Three

Althoff Catholic had already won two in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 31.5 points) and they went ahead and made it three on Wednesday. They came out on top against the Mascoutah Indians by a score of 52-44. That result was just more of the same for these two, as the Crusaders also won the last time the pair played back in January of 2024.

Althoff Catholic got their victory on the backs of several key players, but it was Gabby Dalke out in front who posted 17 points and six steals. Those six steals gave Dalke a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Reece Distler, who put up 12 points in addition to five rebounds and three steals.

Althoff Catholic was working as a unit and finished the game with 13 assists. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Mascoutah only posted seven assists.

Mascoutah's loss came despite a true team effort with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Harper Whitworth, who almost dropped a double-double with 14 points and nine boards. Whitworth continues to improve, besting her previous point total in each of the last three games she's played. Riley Fazenbaker was another key player, going 7 of 16 on her way to 19 points along with five rebounds and three steals.

Althoff Catholic's win was their third straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 12-13. A key ingredient in that success has been their performance when it comes to three-point shooting accuracy: their three-point shooting accuracy was 36.4% in those games and 17.2% outside of them. As for Mascoutah, they are on an 11-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 3-24.

Althoff Catholic has already played their next matchup, a 1-0 victory against Christ Our Rock Lutheran on the 6th. As for Mascoutah, they also didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next game, a 70-49 defeat against Jersey on the 7th.
