Softball Game Preview: Burges Mustangs vs. Del Valle Conquistadores

For the second straight game, Burges will face off against Del Valle. The Mustangs will be playing at home against the Conquistadores at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday. Burges is coming into the matchup on a four-game losing streak.

Burges heads in on the heels of a playoff contest on Friday. They lost 15-1 to Del Valle.

For Del Valle's part, Julianna Santos made a big impact while hitting and pitching. She looked comfortable on the mound, tossing five innings while giving up just one earned run off four hits. Santos was also solid in the batter's box, going 2-for-3 with two RBI and one double.

In other batting news, Briyana Medina and Katelyn Hernandez did most of the damage at the plate: Medina went 1-for-3 with three RBI, two runs, and one double, while Hernandez went 2-for-4 with four RBI, one run, and one double. That's the most RBI Hernandez has posted since back in March of 2024. Davi Dominguez was another key player, going 2-for-4 with two RBI and one double.

Del Valle kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 11 hits. They are 17-1-1 when they post 11 or more hits.

Del Valle is on a roll lately: they've won 13 of their last 15 games. That's provided a massive bump to their 23-11-2 record this season. Those victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 12.9 runs over those games. As for Burges, their defeat dropped their record down to 16-18.

Saturday's matchup will be a test for both teams' pitchers. Burges hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .383. However, it's not like Del Valle struggles in that department as they've averaged .432. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
