Thursday just wasn't the day for Ankeny's offense. They came up short against Southeast Polk on Thursday, falling 8-0. Having soared to a lofty 12 runs in the game before, the Hawks' shutout was a dramatic turnaround.

Meanwhile, Northwest narrowly escaped with a victory as the team sidled past Waukee 4-3. That's two games straight that the Wolves have won by just one run.

Northwest's win was their seventh straight at home dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 6-1. They've had to fight for that success though, as they only beat their opponents by an average of 2.29 runs across that stretch. As for Ankeny, their defeat dropped their record down to 5-9.
