Softball Game Preview: French Settlement Lions vs. Kaplan Pirates

The French Settlement Lions are taking a road trip to square off against the Kaplan Pirates at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. Both teams are coming into the game red-hot, with French Settlement sitting on three straight victories and Kaplan on 22.

French Settlement is on a roll after a high-stakes playoff matchup on Wednesday. They didn't even let Marksville on the board, marking the Lions' second-straight 10-0 shutout. The Lions might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won 14 matchups by six runs or more this season.

Meanwhile, Kaplan made easy work of Berwick on Monday and carried off an 11-1 win. The Pirates are also no stranger to big wins: their blowout was the 20th contest they've won by 6+ runs this season.

Kaplan's victory was their 17th straight at home, which pushed their record up to 32-1. The home wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 10.5 runs over those games. As for French Settlement, their victory bumped their record up to 18-13.

French Settlement couldn't quite finish off Kaplan when the teams last played back in March of 2023 and fell 11-9. Can the Lions avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
