Basketball Recap: St. Petersburg Takes Loss Despite Strong Performances from Kayden Calhoun and Nijaun Harris

If St. Petersburg was riding high fresh off their 79-59 takedown of Carrollwood Day last Saturday, their most recent game may have dampened their spirits a bit. The Green Devils came up short against the Mater Lakes Academy Bears on Friday, falling 83-62.

St. Petersburg's loss came despite strong showings from Nijaun Harris and Kayden Calhoun. Harris posted 18 points, while Calhoun had 16 points. Harris' big performance that evening made it five games in a row in which he has scored at least 18 points. Another player making a difference was Emir Gainer, who scored eight points.

St. Petersburg now has a losing record of 1-2. As for Mater Lakes Academy, they pushed their record up to 2-0 with the victory, which was their seventh straight at home dating back to last season.

St. Petersburg wasted no time getting back out on the court and has already played their next game, an 82-63 win against Winthrop College Prep Academy on the 29th. As for Mater Lakes Academy, they also didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next matchup, a 74-70 victory against Bell Creek Academy on the 29th.
