Recap: Athens Golden Eagles vs. Oxford Yellow Jackets
Despite a phenomenal run in the regular season, the Athens Golden Eagles couldn't carry that success into this playoff game. They took a hard 45-27 fall against Oxford on Friday. Athens' loss signaled the end of their three-game winning streak.
Athens' lost despite a true team effort on the offense, the best among them being JayShon Ridgle, who picked up 145 receiving yards and two touchdowns. John Mcintyre was in the mix too, providing Athens with two touchdowns.
Oxford's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Mason Mims led the charge by throwing for 261 yards and four touchdowns while completing 75% of his passes. Nick Richardson did his part for the team as well, scoring a TD off of 162 receiving yards.
Athens' loss dropped their record down to 8-3. As for Oxford, the win was the third in a row for them, bringing their record for this year to 9-2.
Athens does not have any more games scheduled as of now. Oxford will take on Parker at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Parker has been dominant on offense recently, as they've racked up an incredible 159 points over their last three matches.
