Baseball Recap: Sayre Takes a Loss

Sayre had lost six straight at home dating back to last season, but on Thursday they dropped their record down to 0-8 to make it seven. They came up short against the Millville Quakers, falling 14-1. Unfortunately, that's the second time they've come up short against the Quakers this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 15-0 back in March.

Sayre got a good showing from Logan Zingeser, who pitched one inning while giving up no earned runs or hits. The dominant performance also gave Zingeser a new career-low in walks (zero).

As for Millville, the victory (which was their fourth in a row) raised their record to 8-2. The result was nothing new for the Quakers, who have now won seven matches by ten runs or more so far this season.

On Millville's side, Curtis Whitmoyer made a splash while hitting and pitching. He looked comfortable on the mound, pitching two innings while giving up no earned runs off two hits. Whitmoyer has been nothing but reliable: he hasn't given up a single earned run in three consecutive appearances. He was also big at the plate, going 2-for-3 with one run.

In other batting news, Shane Johnson was excellent, going 2-for-3 with two runs, one stolen base, and two RBI. Another player making a difference was Dylan Brokenshire, who went 2-for-4 with three RBI, one run, and one double.

Coming up, Sayre will challenge Mansfield at 12:00 p.m. on Friday. The Redskins will need to watch out since the Tigers have now posted at least ten runs in their last three contests. As for Millville, they will take on Canton at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday.
