Softball Recap: Sparkman Comes Up Short

On Monday, the Sparkman Senators came up short against the Brooks Lions and fell 11-6.

Bella Mayfield was cooking despite her team's loss, scoring a run and stealing Two bases. while going 2-for-5. The team also got some help courtesy of Laila Watkins, who scored a run while getting on base in three of her five plate appearances.

Sparkman dropped their record down to 9-4 with the defeat, which was their sixth straight on the road dating back to last season. As for Brooks, they are on a roll lately: they've won three of their last four games. That's provided a nice bump to their 3-3 record this season.

Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Sparkman will square off against Athens at 5:00 p.m. on Friday. As for Brooks, a feisty cat fight will be fought as Brooks Lions take on Ardmore Tigers at 4:30 p.m. on Tuesday. They are strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 8.2 runs per game this season.
