Softball Game Preview: Cannon Cougars vs. Charlotte Christian Knights

The Cannon Cougars will face off against the Charlotte Christian Knights at 4:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Cannon will be looking to extend their current four-game winning streak.

It was a proper cat-fight when Cannon challenged Covenant Day on Monday. The Cougars blew past the Lions 10-3. Considering the Cougars have won six matches by more than six runs this season, Monday's blowout was nothing new.

Addie Hartz made a big impact no matter where she played. She looked comfortable on the mound, striking out nine batters over seven innings while giving up three earned runs off four hits. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't tossed less than nine strikeouts in three consecutive appearances. She was also stellar in the batter's box, going 2-for-4 with one home run and three RBI.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Jolie Matthews, who scored four runs and stole a base while getting on base in three of her five plate appearances. Those four runs gave her a new career-high. Carly Benz was another key player, scoring a run while going 3-for-4.

Meanwhile, Charlotte Christian started off well but failed to capitalize on an early lead against Charlotte Latin. They lost 9-1 to the Hawks on Monday.

Charlotte Christian's loss dropped their record down to 8-4. As for Cannon, their win bumped their record up to 9-5-1.

Everything went Cannon's way against Charlotte Christian in their previous matchup back in April of 2024, as Cannon made off with a 16-0 victory. Will the Cougars repeat their success, or do the Knights have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
