Ohio County and Webster County are an even 5-5 against one another since May of 2015, but likely not for long. The Eagles will take on the Trojans at 5:30 p.m. on Thursday. Both come into the match bolstered by wins in their previous matches.
On Monday, Ohio County narrowly escaped with a victory as the team sidled past Hancock County 6-5. The win made it back-to-back victories for the Eagles.

Parker Westerfield made a big impact no matter where he played. He looked comfortable on the mound, pitching two innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. Ohio County is 2-1 when Westerfield allows one or fewer hits, but 5-20 otherwise. Westerfield was also stellar in the batter's box, going 3-for-4 with two runs, two doubles, and one RBI. Those two doubles gave him a new career-high.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Eli Hatfield, who got on base in three of his four plate appearances with one home run. That home run was his first of the season. Keaton Daugherty was another key player, getting on base in three of his four plate appearances with two RBI and one double.
Meanwhile, Webster County had already won five in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 5.6 runs) and they went ahead and made it six on Tuesday. They walked away with a 6-2 win over the Rockets.
Like Ohio County, Webster County also got a great game from a two-way player: Micah Austin. On the mound, he tossed one inning while giving up no earned runs or hits. Austin has been consistent: he hasn't given up more than two walks in five consecutive appearances. He was even better at the plate, going 2-for-4 with three RBI, two doubles, and one run.
In other pitching news, Webster County got a great performance from Cooper Logan as he didn't allow a single earned run while striking out nine over six innings pitched. Logan has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't tossed less than six strikeouts in four consecutive appearances.
Back at the plate, Gunnar Boone was incredible, going 2-for-3 with two stolen bases and three runs. Another player making a difference was Canaan Taylor, who went 1-for-2 with two RBI.
Webster County's victory was their third straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 16-12. The road wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 3.3 runs on average over those games. As for Ohio County, their record is now 7-21.
Ohio County suffered a grim 11-0 defeat to Webster County when the teams last played last Monday. Can the Eagles avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
