Basketball Recap: Diller-Odell Griffin vs. Johnson-Brock Eagles

If the Diller-Odell Griffin were feeling good off their 60-30 takedown of the Exeter-Milligan/Friend Bobcats last Tuesday, their most recent game may have dampened their spirits a bit. Diller-Odell fell 47-36 to the Eagles on Thursday. While losing is never fun, Diller-Odell can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Nebraska basketball rankings (they are ranked 115th, while the Eagles are ranked 29th).

Diller-Odell lost despite a true team effort on the offense, the best among them being Myleigh Weers, who scored 13 points along with seven rebounds and three steals. That was a full 36.1% of Diller-Odell's points, marking the sixth time in a row she's earned more than a third of the team's points. The team also got some help courtesy of Aidan Mckinney, who scored 11 points along with seven rebounds and two steals.

Johnson-Brock's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Taryn Ottemann led the charge by dropping a double-double on 11 points and ten rebounds. Natalie Knippelmeyer was another key contributor, scoring 11 points along with seven rebounds and two steals.

Diller-Odell has not been sharp recently as the team's lost five of their last six contests, which put a noticeable dent in their 8-7 record this season. As for Johnson-Brock, the win was the 17th in a row for them, bringing their record for this year to 17-1.

Diller-Odell will be staying on the road on Saturday to face off against the Knights at 3:00 p.m. on February 3rd. As for Johnson-Brock, they will take on the Irish at 6:00 p.m. on Saturday.
