Softball Recap: Mississinawa Valley's Luck Takes a Turn for the Worse on Tuesday

It was a good run, but Mississinawa Valley unfortunately witnessed the end of their four-game winning streak on Tuesday. They came up short against the Newton Local Indians, falling 9-3. The Blackhawks were given a dose of their own medicine in this game as the Indians apparently hadn't forgotten their loss the last time these teams played back in April of 2024.

Ella Godfrey spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered five earned (and four unearned) runs on seven hits and racked up 12 Ks. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't tossed less than ten strikeouts in five consecutive appearances.

At the plate, Stephany De La Torre was cooking despite her team's loss, scoring two runs and stealing two bases while going 2-for-3. Cora Hoggatt was another key player, going 2-for-3 with two RBI and one double.

Mississinawa Valley's defeat dropped their record down to 5-5. As for Newton Local, their victory was their first in the conference, bumping their conference record up to 1-2 and their overall record up to 5-3.

When Mississinawa Valley and Newton Local next hit the field, they'll be up against teams who recently just can't seem to lose. The Blackhawks will try to stop Arcanum's five-game winning streak when they meet at 5:00 p.m. on Thursday. Meanwhile, Newton Local will square off against Bellbrook and their five-game winning streak at 5:00 p.m. on Monday. The timing isn't great for the Indians: they have been struggling with nine straight losses at home dating back to last season, while the Golden Eagles have snatched up three consecutive wins on the road.
