Baseball Game Preview: Lewis County Lions vs. Russell Red Devils

The Lewis County Lions will venture away from home to challenge the Russell Red Devils at 6:00 p.m. on Monday. Lewis County is coming into the matchup on a six-game losing streak.

Lewis County came into this matchup off a tough six-run defeat on Tuesday. This time they kept things ultra-competitive, but unfortunately the final result was the same. They fell just short of Fairview by a score of 6-4 on Thursday. Lions fans who chose to attend the game sure picked the wrong one: it was the first time the team's lost against the Eagles since on Thursday.

Cayden Stevenson was a force to be reckoned with on the mound despite the final result: he pitched 5.2 innings while giving up just two earned (and three unearned) runs off three hits. He has been nothing but reliable: he hasn't given up more than one walk in five consecutive appearances.

At the plate, Lewis County saw four different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Parker Jordan, who went 2-for-3 with one run and one RBI. Braydon Killbreth also deserves some recognition as he scored his first run of the season.

Meanwhile, Russell suffered their biggest loss since May 13, 2024 on Tuesday. They lost 10-2 to Greenup County.

Lewis County's defeat dropped their record down to 3-15. As for Russell, they have been struggling recently as they've lost six of their last eight games. That's put a noticeable dent in their 12-9 record this season.

Lewis County couldn't quite get it done against Russell in their previous meeting back in April of 2024 as they fell 5-1. Can the Lions avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
