Baseball Recap: San Diego Comes Up Short

San Diego had lost four straight at home, but on Thursday they dropped their record down to 13-10-1 to make it five. They fell just short of the Banquete Bulldogs by a score of 7-6. The Vaqueros were not able to repeat the success they had when they faced the Bulldogs earlier this season, when they won 2-1.

Jayden Lozano put in work while hitting and pitching. He looked comfortable on the mound, striking out 15 batters over 6.1 innings while giving up just one earned (and five unearned) runs off four hits. He is becoming a predictor of San Diego's success: when he allows at most three earned runs the team is 6-2 (and 7-8-1 when he doesn't). Lozano was also big at the plate, getting on base in three of his five plate appearances with one home run.

Lozano wasn't the only one making solid contact as five players wound up with at least one hit. One of them was Brian Ramirez, who went 2-for-4 with three RBI, one stolen base, and one double. Landon Sanchez was another, going 2-for-3 with one RBI.

As for Banquete, their victory ended a three-game drought on the road and puts them at 10-9-1. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest win they have posted against San Diego since March 21, 2023.

On Banquete's side, they got a great performance from Justin Ramirez as he struck out seven batters over 4.1 innings while giving up just one earned (and two unearned) runs off four hits. Ramirez has been consistent: he hasn't tossed less than six strikeouts any time he's pitched this season.

San Diego wasted no time getting back out on the field and has already played their next matchup, a 10-0 victory against Ben Bolt on the 21st. As for Banquete, they will be playing at home against Orange Grove at 7:00 p.m. on the 25th. Orange Grove's pitching crew has only allowed four runs per game this season, so Banquete's hitters will have their work cut out for them.
