Preview: New Richmond Tigers vs. Menomonie Mustangs
New Richmond has enjoyed a two-game homestand but will soon have to dust off their road jerseys. They will square off against The Menomonie Mustangs at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. The matchup should be an exciting one, as these teams are ranked near one another in Wisconsin (New Richmond is ranked 20th, while Menomonie is ranked 25th).
Last Friday, New Richmond strolled past Marshfield with points to spare, taking the game 39-22. The victory was just what New Richmond needed coming off of a 35-13 loss in their prior match.
Miles Burke went supernova for New Richmond, rushing for 266 yards and two touchdowns while picking up 13.3 yards per carry. Burke really tore up the turf during one magnificent 78-yard run. Kyle Germain made the highlight reel by snagging an interception and taking it all the way to the house.
Meanwhile, Menomonie had already won two in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 30 points), and they went ahead and made it three on Friday. They enjoyed a cozy 28-14 win over River Falls. The score was all tied up 7-7 at the break, but Menomonie was the (much) better team in the second half.
Their wins bumped New Richmond to 9-1 and Menomonie to 8-2.
Everything came up roses for New Richmond against Menomonie when the teams last played back in September as the team secured a 35-7 win. The rematch might be a little tougher for New Richmond since the squad won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
