Basketball Recap: Chloe Smith Leads a Balanced Attack to Beat Wilton

Staples lost to Wilton back in January of 2024, but they didn't allow them the same satisfaction on Friday. The Staples Wreckers took down the Wilton Warriors 48-30. The Wreckers pushed the score to 42-18 by the end of the third, a deficit the Warriors cut but never quite recovered from.

Staples' win was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Chloe Smith, who dropped a double-double on ten points and 12 rebounds. The team also got some help courtesy of Addie Talbott, who posted seven points in addition to nine boards and five assists.

Staples smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 18 offensive rebounds. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least ten offensive boards in three consecutive games.

The victory got Staples back to even at 6-6. As for Wilton, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 2-4.

Staples will challenge Warde at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Warde will roll in looking for their fifth straight win, something Staples surely won't give up without a fight. As for Wilton, they will welcome Bridgeport Central at 5:45 p.m. on Tuesday. Bridgeport Central has been getting the ball to fall more lately as they've increased their point totals each of their last three games.
