Softball Recap: Vernon Drops Highest Score of Season Against Kittatinny Regional

Winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Vernon). They were the clear victors by a 15-2 margin over the Kittatinny Regional Cougars on Wednesday. The Vikings haven't had any issues with the Cougars recently, as the game was their eighth consecutive win against them.

Miranda Ebbighausen spent all six innings played on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered only one earned (and one unearned) run on seven hits and racked up 12 Ks. She has been consistent : she hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in six consecutive appearances.

On the hitting side, Riley Lazier was a standout: she scored two runs and stole two bases while going 4-for-4. She also put up a double, which was her first of the season. Another player making a difference was Abby Mundhenk, who went 2-for-4 with one home run, four RBI, and one stolen base.

Vernon was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .543. That's the best batting average they've posted all season.

Vernon now has a winning record of 5-4. As for Kittatinny Regional, they now have a losing record of 1-2.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Vernon will venture away from home to square off against Newton at 4:00 p.m. on Thursday. As for Kittatinny Regional, they will head out to face off against Parsippany at 4:00 p.m. on Thursday. The Redhawks will roll in looking for their sixth straight victory, something the Cougars surely won't give up without a fight.
