Basketball Recap: South Columbus Comes Up Short

South Columbus was not able to break out of their rough patch on Friday as the team picked up their eighth straight defeat. They took a 48-32 bruising from the Whiteville Wolfpack. Unfortunately, that's the second time they've come up short against the Wolfpack this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 49-23 back in January.

Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Whiteville to victory, but perhaps none more so than Elayzia Dawson, who went 5-for-11 on her way to 13 points in addition to six assists and five steals. Dawson has become a key player for Whiteville: the team is 2-1 when she posts at least three steals, but 7-12 otherwise. Ceonna Dennis was another key player, dropping a double-double with 12 points and 11 rebounds.

South Columbus' loss dropped their record down to 5-16. As for Whiteville, their record is now 9-13.

Looking ahead, South Columbus will head out to take on Heide Trask at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. As for Whiteville, they will look to defend their home court on Tuesday against Pender at 6:00 p.m.
