Softball Game Preview: Mineola Yellowjackets vs. Tatum Eagles

The Mineola Yellowjackets will head out on the road to face off against the Tatum Eagles at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday. Mineola is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 8 runs per game this season.

Mineola can't be too worried about heading out to take on Tatum: they just beat Edgewood at home, who had been dominant on their own field up to that point. The Yellowjackets were the clear victors by a 14-3 margin over the Bulldogs on Friday. The Yellowjackets haven't had any issues with the Bulldogs recently, as the game was their fourth consecutive victory against them.

Mineola got a massive performance out of Carol Castleberry, who got on base in three of her four plate appearances with three RBI, two runs, and one double. Those three RBI gave Castleberry a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Kaitlyn McMahon, who went a perfect 4-for-4 with two runs and two RBI.

Mineola hit smart and finished the game with only two strikeouts. The team has now struck out at least four batters in six consecutive matchups.

Meanwhile, Tatum was not able to break out of their rough patch on Tuesday as the team picked up their fourth straight defeat. They came up short against White Oak, falling 21-6.

Tatum saw six different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Noa Cart, who went a perfect 3-for-3 with three RBI, one run, and one double. Caitlyn Tatum also deserves some recognition as she hit her first double of the season.

Mineola's win bumped their record up to 20-6-2. As for Tatum, their loss dropped their record down to 5-19-1.

Tatum's pitching crew has a crucial task ahead of them: Mineola hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .326.
