Basketball Game Preview: Monroe Redhawks vs. Lee Park Prep Knights

The Monroe Redhawks will take on the Lee Park Prep Knights at 5:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Both teams are still undefeated (Monroe has three wins , while Lee Park Prep has eight dating back to last season).

Last Wednesday, Monroe didn't have too much breathing room in their match against Lincolnton, but they still walked away with a 65-59 win.

Monroe found their leader in freshman Janiyah Boyd, who dropped a double-double on 35 points and ten blocks. That makes it three consecutive games in which Boyd has scored at least a third of Monroe's points. Summer Jones was another key player, putting up 16 points and six boards.

Meanwhile, Lee Park Prep hadn't done well against Liberty Preparatory Christian Academy recently (they were 1-8 in their previous nine matchups), but they didn't let the past get in their way on Monday. Lee Park Prep managed a 54-48 victory over Liberty Preparatory Christian Academy.

Monroe's win bumped their record up to 3-0. As for Lee Park Prep, their victory was their fourth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 8-0.

Monroe came up short against Lee Park Prep in their previous meeting back in December of 2023, falling 34-30. A big factor in that loss was the dominant performance of Lee Park Prep's Viviana Nigro, who posted 18 points and five steals.
