Basketball Recap: Laurens Academy Takes a Loss

Laurens Academy lost to Ware Shoals back in January of 2025 and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Saturday. The Crusaders were just a bucket shy of victory and fell 55-54 to the Hornets. The Crusaders have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.

Laurens Academy lost despite a true team effort on offense. The best among them was Garrison Vaughan, who dropped a double-double with 17 points and 17 boards. His morning made it three games in a row in which he has scored at least 16 points. Braydon Burke was another key player, putting up 13 points and seven rebounds.

Ware Shoals found their leader in sophomore Charles Callaham, who posted 35 points. Callaham has become a key player for the Hornets: the team is 3-1 when he posts at least 15 points, but 1-6 otherwise. Another player making a difference was Tyrell Cunningham, who scored 11 points along with seven boards and five steals.

Laurens Academy's loss dropped their record down to 5-7. As for Ware Shoals, the win made it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 4-7.

Looking ahead, Laurens Academy will challenge King Academy at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday. As for Ware Shoals, they will face off against Whitmire at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday. The Hornets will be up against the Wolverines' rather soft defense (which has allowed 56.18 points per game), so fans could be in store for a big offensive performance.
