Softball Recap: Prairie Heights Panthers vs. Westview Warriors
Prairie Heights extended their losing streak to six on Thursday, dropping their season record down to 3-9 in the process. They were a single run away from ending the streak, but they lost a 9-8 heartbreaker at the hands of the Westview Warriors. The Panthers were not able to make up for their defeat to the Warriors from their previous meeting back in May of 2024.
Hayley Hardy was cooking despite her team's loss, going a perfect 3-for-3 with one home run, three runs, and four RBI. Olivia Boots also deserves some recognition as she brought in her first RBI of the season.
As for Westview, they have been performing well recently as they've won four of their last five matches. That's provided a nice bump to their 8-4 record this season. Those wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 11.0 runs over those games.
On Westview's side, Janissa Lehman spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered just two earned (and six unearned) runs on eight hits and racked up six Ks. Lehman has been consistent recently: she hasn't given up more than two walks in three consecutive appearances.
On the hitting side, Briana Kaufman was incredible, getting on base in three of her four plate appearances with one home run. Another player making a difference was Morgan Rich, who went a perfect 2-for-2 with three runs.
Looking ahead, Prairie Heights will head out to challenge Edon at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. The Panthers' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Bombers have averaged an impressive 9.1 runs per game this season. As for Westview, they will be playing at home against Jimtown at 5:00 p.m. on Friday. The Jimmies will roll in looking for their fourth straight victory, something the Warriors surely won't give up without a fight.
