Softball Recap: River Valley Snags Sixth Win in Last Seven Games

River Valley had to skate by with only a two-run margin when they last took the field, which might have inspired the 15-run drubbing they dealt Chino Valley on Tuesday. River Valley's pitcher stepped up to hand Chino Valley a 15-0 shutout. Considering the Dust Devils have won four games by more than nine runs this season, Tuesday's blowout was nothing new.

Sophia Reyes made a big impact while hitting and pitching. She didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only one hit over four innings pitched. She has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't given up more than two hits in three consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, going a perfect 4-for-4 with two triples, three runs, and two RBI. Those two triples gave her a new career-high.

In other batting news, Morgan MacDonald and Tamarie Williams did most of the damage at the plate: MacDonald went a perfect 2-for-2 with three RBI, one triple, and one stolen base, while Williams went 3-for-4 with two runs, one triple, and one stolen base. That's the most hits Williams has posted since back in May of 2024. Another player making a difference was Lovie Phan, who scored two runs while going 3-for-4.

River Valley was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .581. That was just more of the same: they've now posted a batting average of .360 or higher in six consecutive contests.

River Valley has been performing incredibly well recently as they've won six of their last seven matches. That's provided a nice bump to their 8-3-1 record this season. Those wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 8.9 runs over those games. Chino Valley dropped their record down to 5-7 with the defeat, which was their third straight at home.

Coming up, River Valley will challenge ALA - West Foothills at 3:45 p.m. on Friday. ALA - West Foothills will roll in looking for their sixth straight victory, something River Valley surely won't give up without a fight. As for Chino Valley, they will square off against Kingman at 3:45 p.m. on Friday.
