Basketball Game Preview: Sedgwick Cardinals vs. Central Christian Academy Lions

A feisty cat fight will be fought as the Cardinals face off against the Lions at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday. The teams are rolling into the game with opposing streaks: Sedgwick has struggled recently with ten defeats in a row, while Central Christian Academy will arrive with three straight wins.

It's never fun to lose, and it's even less fun to lose 43-16, which was the final score in Sedgwick's tilt against Remington on Monday. While losing is never fun, the Cardinals can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Kansas basketball rankings (they are ranked 283rd, while the Broncos are ranked 44th).

Meanwhile, Central Christian Academy beat Sterling 54-43 on Monday.

Central Christian Academy's win came from a few key players Sedgwick will need to keep an eye on. One of the most notable was Avery Luckner, who posted 14 points and five assists. That's the most points she has posted since back in December of 2024. The team also got some help courtesy of Elaina Magana, who went 5-for-10 to rack up 16 points along with five rebounds and four steals.

Sedgwick's loss dropped their record down to 3-14. As for Central Christian Academy, their victory bumped their record up to 8-10.

Sedgwick came up short against Central Christian Academy in their previous matchup back in January, falling 40-33. Can Sedgwick avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
