Recap: Weldon Chargers vs. Northampton County Jaguars
The Weldon Chargers suffered their biggest defeat yet this season on Wednesday. They suffered a tough 65-44 defeat at the hands of Northampton County. Weldon has struggled against Northampton County recently, as their game on Wednesday was their fifth consecutive lost matchup.
Weldon lost despite a true team effort on the offense, the best among them being Shaelyn Johnson, who scored 13 points along with seven steals. Johnson is absolutely dominating the steal category: she's posted at least two every time she's taken the court this season. The team also got some help courtesy of Kamya Coles, who scored 13 points along with eight rebounds and eight steals.
Michaela Hodge was her usual excellent self, dropping a double-double on 21 points and 18 rebounds for Northampton County. Hodge is absolutely dominating the block category: she's posted at least two every time she's taken the court this season. Kyra Vincent was another key contributor, scoring 15 points along with two steals.
Weldon's defeat dropped their record down to 5-4. As for Northampton County, the victory (which was their sixth in a row) raised their record to 9-2.
Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Weldon and North Edgecombe will face off at 6:00 p.m. on January 23rd without much rest after finishing up games yesterday. As for Northampton County, they will look to defend their home court on Friday against Wilson Prep at 6:00 p.m. Wilson Prep will have to bring their A-game into this one, as they are staring down a pretty big deficit in the MaxPreps North Carolina Rankings (they are ranked 567th, while Northampton County is ranked 268th).
