Two dominant signal callers in Johan Nunez and Robert Pineda are getting ready to go toe-to-toe. The Economedes Jaguars will face off against the Los Fresnos Falcons at 7:00 p.m. on Friday.
Economedes came into their game on Thursday off a hard-fought close win, but unfortunately suffered a serious change of fortune. They lost 37-13 to Weslaco. While losing is never fun, the Jaguars can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Texas football rankings (they are ranked 399th, while the Panthers are ranked 184th).
Despite the loss, Economedes got top-tier performance from Carlos Garcia, who rushed for 88 yards and one TD on only nine carries. Garcia's longest rush was for an impressive 62 yards, which helps to explain his lofty yards per carry total.
Meanwhile, Los Fresnos strolled into their game on Friday with a perfect record and they left with the same. Everything went their way against Hanna as they made off with a 28-7 win. The Falcons might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won five games by 21 points or more this season.
Economedes better keep an eye on Tyler Stachowiak. He was instrumental in Los Fresnos' win, rushing for 52 yards and one touchdown on only six carries, while also picking up 72 receiving yards.
Los Fresnos didn't go easy on the quarterback and picked off two passes before the game was over. Leading the way was Hector Resendiz and his one interception.
Los Fresnos' record now sits at 10-0. As for Economedes, their defeat was their first of the season and makes their record 9-1.
Friday's contest might be decided on the ground. Economedes has been unstoppable on the ground this season, having averaged 370.3 rushing yards per game. However, it's not like Los Fresnos struggles in that department as they've been averaging an even more impressive 206.8 rushing yards. There's a good chance Friday's matchup turns into a tough fight on the ground.
Economedes took a serious blow against Los Fresnos in their previous matchup back in November of 2024, falling 42-13. A big factor in that loss was the dominant performance of Pineda, who threw for 135 yards and three TDs while completing 80% of his passes, and also punched in one score on the ground. Now that the Jaguars know the damage he can cause, will they be able to stop him this time? There's only one way to find out.
