Dynamic duo of Ethan Stepputtis and James Scampolino lead Woodland Regional to victory

Recap: Woodland Regional Hawks vs. Waterbury Career Academy Spartans

Even though the Woodland Regional Hawks have not done well against the Waterbury Career Academy Spartans recently (they were 0-4 in their previous four matchups), they didn't let the past get in their way on Tuesday. Woodland Regional narrowly escaped with a win as the team sidled past Waterbury Career Academy 73-70. Having run the score up that high, both teams might be doing some extra defensive drills very soon.

Leading Woodland Regional to victory were Ethan Stepputtis and James Scampolino. Stepputtis dropped a double-double on 14 points and ten assists, while Scampolino scored 21 points along with five rebounds and two steals. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Scampolino has scored all season. William Delucia was another key contributor, scoring ten points along with five rebounds.

Despite the loss, Waterbury Career Academy still got an impressive performance from Andrew Williams, who dropped a double-double on 35 points and 11 rebounds. The team also got some help courtesy of Zaire Lott, who scored 17 points along with seven rebounds.

Woodland Regional's victory ended a three-game drought on the road and puts them at 4-9. As for Waterbury Career Academy, their defeat dropped their record down to 9-4.

Woodland Regional will be playing in front of their home fans against Kennedy at 6:30 p.m. on Friday. Kennedy is no doubt hoping to put an end to a four-game streak of away losses. As for Waterbury Career Academy, they will head out on the road to take on Derby at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Derby will have to bring their A-game into this one, as they are staring down a pretty big deficit in the MaxPreps Connecticut Rankings (they are ranked 141st, while Waterbury Career Academy is ranked 48th).
