Preview: Athens Wildcats vs. Canton Warriors
Athens is 10-0 against Canton since January of 2016, and they'll have a chance to extend that success on Tuesday. The Athens Wildcats will head out on the road to square off against the Canton Warriors at 7:30 p.m. Athens has been getting the ball to fall more lately as they've increased their point totals each of their last three games.
Athens posted their biggest victory since December 6, 2023 on Saturday. They blew past Vestal 71-50.
Connor Mosher continued his habit of posting crazy stat lines, dropping a double-double on 32 points and 11 rebounds. As a matter of fact, that's the most points he has scored all season. Another player making a difference was Nick Jacob, who scored ten points.
Meanwhile, Canton's four-game losing streak came to an end on Saturday. They narrowly escaped with a win as the squad sidled past Williamson 50-48. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest victory Canton has posted yet this season.
Canton got their victory on the backs of several key players, but it was Ben Fitch out in front who scored 13 points along with nine rebounds and two steals. Brayden Vroman was another key contributor, scoring 12 points along with six rebounds.
Athens has been performing well recently as they've won four of their last five matchups, which provided a nice bump to their 10-5 record this season. Canton's record is now 6-10.
This contest is shaping up to be a blowout: Athens hasn't had any problem running up the score this season, having only averaged 58.2 points per game. It's a different story for Canton, though, as they've been averaging only 39.3 points per game. The only thing between Athens and another offensive beatdown is Canton. Will they be able to keep them contained?
Everything came up roses for Athens against Canton when the teams last played back in January of 2023 as the squad secured a 59-22 win. With Athens ahead 33-12 at the half, the contest was all but over already.
