Football Game Preview: Bergan Catholic Knights vs. Aquinas Monarchs

Bergan Catholic and Aquinas are an even 4-4 against one another since October of 2015, but not for long. The Knights will face off against the Monarchs on Friday. Aquinas took a loss in their last contest and will be looking to turn the tables on Bergan Catholic, who comes in off a win.

On Friday, Bergan Catholic blew past Yutan, posting a 35-7 victory. The matchup was pretty much decided by the half, when the score had already reached 21-0.

Bergan Catholic's win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Trent Mlnarik, who rushed for 92 yards and three scores. Those 92 rushing yards gave Mlnarik a new career-high. Cale Sheets also helped with two TDs in total.

Meanwhile, Aquinas was not able to break out of their rough patch on Friday as the team picked up their sixth straight loss dating back to last season. They lost to Arlington on the road by a 33-14 margin.

The win made it two in a row for Bergan Catholic and bumps their season record up to 4-1. The victories came thanks in part to their defensive effort, having only surrendered a grand total of 13 points in those games. As for Aquinas, their defeat dropped their record down to 0-5.

Here's a few offensive stats to keep an eye on ahead of Friday's game: Bergan Catholic has been excellent in the air this season, having averaged 287.2 passing yards per game. It's a different story for Aquinas, though, as they've been averaging only 26.4 passing yards. How will they fare against such a dominant passing game?

Bergan Catholic came up short against Aquinas in their previous meeting back in October of 2024, falling 20-7. Can the Knights avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
