Basketball Game Preview: Verndale Pirates vs. Upsala Cardinals

The Verndale Pirates will face off against the Upsala Cardinals at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday.

Last Friday, Verndale was beaten by Henning 88-46. While losing is never fun, the Pirates can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Minnesota basketball rankings (they are ranked 337th, while the Hornets are ranked 126th).

Meanwhile, Upsala beat Long Prairie-Grey Eagle 57-47 on Monday. The Cardinals haven't had any issues with the Thunder recently, as the game was their fifth consecutive victory against them.

Verndale's loss dropped their record down to 11-11. As for Upsala, their win bumped their record up to 18-6.

Verndale ended up a good deal behind Upsala in their previous matchup back in December of 2023, losing 73-59. A big factor in that loss was the dominant performance of Upsala's Jack Primus, who on his way to 32 points along with seven boards and six assists.
