Softball Game Preview: Caldwell Cougars vs. Columbia Wildcats

Caldwell is 6-1 against Columbia since March of 2017 and they'll have a chance to extend that dominance on Thursday. The Cougars will head out on the road to challenge the Wildcats at 5:00 p.m. Given that the two teams suffered a loss in their last games, they both have a little extra motivation heading into this game.

On Tuesday, Caldwell came up short against Emmett and fell 8-3. The loss continues a trend for the Cougars in their meetings with the Huskies: they've now lost nine in a row.

Bristol Runnels put in work no matter where she played. She didn't allow a single earned run over five innings pitched. Runnels was also solid in the batter's box, going 1-for-3 with one stolen base and one RBI.

Runnels wasn't the only one making solid contact as three players wound up with at least one hit. One of them was Kloe Fogle, who scored a run while going 1-for-3.

Meanwhile, Columbia was not able to break out of their rough patch on Tuesday as the team picked up their 31st straight defeat dating back to last season. They lost 19-0 to Middleton.

Columbia's loss dropped their record down to 0-11. As for Caldwell, their defeat dropped their record down to 6-8.

Everything went Caldwell's way against Columbia in their previous meeting back in April of 2024, as Caldwell made off with a 13-3 win. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Cougars since the squad won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
