Preview: North Gaston Wildcats vs. South Point Red Raiders
North Gaston is 1-9 against South Point since February of 2017 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Tuesday. The North Gaston Wildcats will look to defend their home court against the South Point Red Raiders at 7:30 p.m. North Gaston is coming into the contest on a five-game losing streak.
North Gaston suffered their biggest loss yet this season on Friday. They had to suffer through a rough 82-52 loss at the hands of Crest. While losing is never fun, North Gaston can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' North Carolina basketball rankings (they are ranked 523rd, while Crest is ranked 34th).
Despite the loss, North Gaston had strong showings from Markell Carothers, who scored 22 points along with two steals, and Max Huggins, who scored 14 points along with eight rebounds. Carothers hasn't dropped below 15points for five straight games. The team also got some help courtesy of Bryson Blanton, who scored six points.
Meanwhile, South Point scored the most points they've had all season to find success on Friday. They skirted past Kings Mountain 84-81. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest victory South Point has posted yet this season.
North Gaston bumped their record down to 3-13 with that loss, which was their seventh straight on the road. As for South Point, they now have a winning record of 8-7.
