Basketball Recap: Fort Hancock Comes Up Short

If Fort Hancock was riding high fresh off their 71-11 takedown of Fort Davis on Friday, their most recent game may have dampened their spirits a bit. The Mustangs took a 78-69 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Jesus Chapel Chargers on Tuesday. The Mustangs were given a dose of their own medicine in this game as the Chargers apparently hadn't forgotten their loss the last time these teams played back in December of 2024.

Despite the loss, Fort Hancock still got an impressive performance from Patrick Hernandez, who posted 19 points and five steals. The game was Hernandez's third in a row with at least 16 points. Inaki Arriaga was another key player, putting up 12 points and five boards.

Fort Hancock's defeat dropped their record down to 1-1. As for Jesus Chapel, the victory also got them back to even at 1-1.

Looking ahead, Fort Hancock will take on Irvin in a tournament on Friday. Jesus Chapel will be paying especially close attention to the Mustangs' matchup: after the Mustangs face off against Balmorhea, they'll take on Jesus Chapel again at 6:30 p.m. on December 2.
