Basketball Recap: Bunn Comes Up Short

Bunn was not able to break out of their rough patch on Thursday as the team picked up their eighth straight loss. They were four points away from ending the streak, but they lost a 37-33 heartbreaker at the hands of the Roanoke Rapids Yellowjackets. The Wildcats were not able to repeat the success they had when they faced the Yellowjackets earlier this season, when they won 48-34.

Despite the defeat, Bunn saw an underclassman step up: freshman Ny'lah Mitchell dropped a double-double with 11 points and 14 boards.

Even though they lost, Bunn smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 18 offensive boards. That's the most offensive rebounds they've posted since back in November of 2024.

Shaniah Daniels was her usual excellent self, dropping a double-double with 15 points and 20 rebounds for Roanoke Rapids. Daniels has been hot for a while, having posted eight or more boards the last 22 times she's played. Another player making a difference was Gabriella Buffaloe, who posted three points in addition to 14 rebounds and three steals.

Bunn's loss dropped their record down to 7-14. As for Roanoke Rapids, their win bumped their record up to 7-11.

Bunn does not have any more games scheduled as of now. As for Roanoke Rapids, they won't have much time to rest: their next game is against Nash Central at 6:00 p.m. on Friday.
