Baseball Recap: Greenhills Gryphons vs. Cabrini Monarchs
Greenhills extended their losing streak to four on Saturday, dropping them down to 1-12. They were a single run away from ending the streak, but they lost a 6-5 heartbreaker at the hands of the Cabrini Monarchs. Unfortunately, that's the second time they've come up short against the Monarchs this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 4-3 back in March.
As for Cabrini, the win (which was their fifth in a row) raised their record to 7-6. Those victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.2 runs on average over those games.
For Cabrini's part, Evan Bergdoll spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered just two earned (and three unearned) runs on six hits and racked up 13 Ks. Bergdoll has been nothing but reliable: he hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in four consecutive appearances.
At the plate, Eddie Hughes was excellent, getting on base in three of his four plate appearances with one stolen base, one run, and one RBI. The team also got some help courtesy of Jace Cetnar, who got on base in three of his four plate appearances with two runs.
Coming up, Greenhills will head out to take on Gabriel Richard at 5:00 p.m. on Monday. As for Cabrini, they will be playing in front of their home fans against Taylor Prep at 4:30 p.m. on Wednesday.
