Softball Game Preview: Southern Alamance Patriots vs. Cape Fear Colts

The Southern Alamance Patriots will challenge the Cape Fear Colts on Friday. Both come into the matchup bolstered by wins in their previous matches.

Southern Alamance is on a roll after a high-stakes playoff matchup on Tuesday. They had just enough and edged out First Flight 6-4. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest win the Patriots have posted since April 17th.

Meanwhile, there's no place like home for Cape Fear, who bounced back after a loss on the road on Thursday. They came out on top against J.H. Rose by a score of 12-7 on Tuesday. The high-flying hitting performance was a huge turnaround for the Colts considering their two-run performance the game before.

Karalina Tomasic was a major factor while hitting and pitching. On the mound, she tossed 5.1 innings while giving up just one earned run off seven hits. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than two walks in seven consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, going 3-for-4 with three RBI. Those three hits gave her a new career-high.

In other batting news, Cape Fear let Allie Dawson and Amari Adams run wild. Dawson went 3-for-4 with two runs, one stolen base, and one RBI, while Adams went 3-for-5 with two stolen bases and two runs. That's the most stolen bases Adams has posted since back in April. The team also got some help courtesy of Addie Davis, who went 2-for-4 with two runs, two RBI, and one double.

Cape Fear kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 14 hits. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now got at least nine hits in 16 consecutive contests.

Cape Fear's victory was their seventh straight at home, which pushed their record up to 21-5. Those home wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.4 runs on average over those games. As for Southern Alamance, they have been performing well recently as they've won three of their last four matchups. That's provided a massive bump to their 12-14 record this season.

Southern Alamance couldn't quite finish off Cape Fear when the teams last played back in May of 2017 and fell 3-1. Can the Patriots avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
